SHOES!

I have taken it upon myself to learn how to wear shoes. This will not be a permanent departure from my boot wearing habit just a temporary adjustment for hot weather.

I have been doing my best to convince myself that my feet, while very hot in their boots, are cooler than other people's flip-flopped feet due to being out of direct sunlight but that doesn't remove the fact that wearing woolly socks in a heatwave is not ideal. Or the fact that people think I'm weird*.

And that's why I'm learning how to wear shoes.

Confession

On Saturday evening, I applied my lipstick… on the train! I'm letting you know because if I make myself broadcast my uncouth behaviour to the world I am less likely to carry it out in future.

I did also remove my lipstick on the train back home and although I like to think it cancelled out my misdemeanour I've probably only made it worse.

I hang my head in shame.

A few years ago, I was called up for jury service and sat in on three cases. The last one involved a rather interesting character. It emerged, over the course of the court case, that the defendant was an (ex?) heroin addict, he published tarot cards and books of spells, he had converted to Islam and his girlfriend was a prostitute that had been murdered (he shed a few tears when this came up).

It also emerged that it was easier for the lawyer to hand over to the judge a six page document containing the previous convictions (for armed robbery and such like) instead of reading them all out.

Yesterday, I received my quarterly copy of the LSE alumni magazine. In the section headed "Where are they now?" this man had an entry. I was almost expecting it to say "in prison again".
