Well, after my depressing start to the New Year things are starting to feel a little better and for no apparent reason.
After a few tears on New Year's Eve I spent much of yesterday trying to take my mind off depressing thoughts by distracting myself with Finding Neverland, some Strauss in Vienna, part 1 of Sense and Sensibility (yes, yet another Austen adaptation) and Bonnie and Clyde (I attempted to watch the news but the headlines told me it was all about people being killed).
Today I woke up to the thought of having to deliver yet another presentation, this time to our Marine department (which is a great department because they have models of boats), an overheated, stuffy train, over-run engineering works, severe delays, early termination of trains and overcrowded Central Lines.
By the time I arrived at work (A delay of 61 minutes! Hooray! This means I get full compensation instead of half which equates to an entire six pounds!) I was quite cheerful - presumably brought on by the realisation that the world is running as smoothly as normal.
My New Year's resolutions are in full swing. I have lots of them. Some of them are as follows:
1) take an iron tablet every day
2) idiot avoidance
3) don't dwell on depressing things
4) pretend not to be shy at least once a day
The others are general things-I-want-to-do-that-I-will-do-this-year rather than things-I-need-to-keep-doing-or-not-doing.
And what's more I got a (slightly late) Christmas card that has penguins in an aeroplane on it!
