Phew!

They weren't in Ipswich at all but behind the till in the Co-Op. They are now in their rightful place at last. That is to say, my house.

I think I may need looking after

Why is it that whenever any of my property has to get from someone else’s house to my house it’s never straightforward?

There was my top that managed to get from Upney to Chelmsford via Richmond and Barcelona.

This time there is a white feather boa and some hosiery which I believe may be currently passing time at the Co-Op. Although they could actually be in Ipswich. With any luck I will find out soon.

You know you’re having a bad day when…

… you decide to speak to a colleague about archiving old files in order to cheer yourself up.

Guards! Guards!

We have a new security guard at our office. When you enter the building you have to show your staff pass and most guards just glance at it, very quickly. The only reason you know they’ve seen it is because they don’t they jump up and create a fuss. Some of them occasionally say hello but generally speaking… they don’t.

The new security guard is different. He’s been here for just two weeks and he never fails to wish me a good morning. On top of that, if he’s standing at the doorway (as opposed to sitting behind the desk) he even opens the door for me. He asks if I’ve enjoyed my lunch and today he commented that I always have short lunches (I tend to go out, buy a sandwich and eat it at my desk).

I’ve been late for work three times this week (twice due to nurses’ appointments and once because I just couldn’t get out of bed on time) and I’m sure he must have noticed. From now on I’m going to have to make the extra effort to get that 08:19 train.

Before he comments on my shoddy time-keeping.

At last…

…I have managed to get the croissant crumbs out from between my keyboard keys. I have now moved on to removing bits of fluff and dust – a skill so important in someone in charge of an actuarial team.

This is the plan now

The Australian chap and the lovely person are definitely leaving. In April we had a team of five actuarial bods. Now we have one. Except:

1) We have recruited a reserving chap
2) We have recruited a junior chap

both starting work this month and therefore before either of the other two actually leave.

Which means… I won’t be left in charge of just myself! Hooray!

The lovely person seems keen to get to her new job (and to a six figure salary, so I can’t really blame her) and managed to shorten her notice period to the lesser of three months and until a replacement is found to be in charge of our team.

But she’s not just keen to go; she’s REALLY keen to go. She has gone so far as to say to the medium cheese that I would be able to be in charge until they find a replacement for her. The medium cheese seemed happy with this and I believe she’s having a meeting with the big cheese later this week to discuss… stuff.

There’s part of me thinking she hasn’t really thought this through. The same part of me is also thinking that if I make a complete pig’s ear of this being-in-charge lark it’s not my fault anyway because I just kind of fell into it.
